The Mayo Association Dublin hosted their annual awards banquet in the Ballsbridge hotel, Dublin, last Friday night. Over 520 guests were in attendance at the event which saw Maria Walsh, former Rose of Tralee, act as MC on the evening.

Irish TV, Ireland’s first international TV channel, will broadcast a live two-hour All Ireland special from the Park Hotel in Kiltimagh on September 13 from 8pm to 10pm. The Mad for Sam live show will air on Sky channel 191, Freesat 400, all free-to-air boxes, Eircom’s eVision 191 and online at www.irishtv.ie. Young people from all over the country gathered in Clontarf Castle for the ‘Ten Outstanding Young Person’ (TOYP) Awards. The TOYP Awards ceremony is a global initiative of Junior Chamber International which concentrates on formally recognising young people who are making giant strides in their chosen fields and creating positive impact on other people, their community, and society at large. The awards were the result of a nationwide campaign launched by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny early in 2016. JCI Ireland received record numbers of nominations this year, on the back of Joanne O'Riordain being listed as one of the TOYP in the World at the 2015 World Congress in Japan.

The Mayo Association World Convention from the April 29 to May 1 taking place in Erris offers something for everyone. Mayo Association Dublin invites people to meet the Canadian Ambassador, His Excellency, Kevin Vickers at the dinner on the Friday evening. Following the dinner, entertainment will be provided by the Sylvan Kelly School of Dancing from Ballina, a supremely talented group of dancers who are the current holders of three world titles and 47 world medals won at the 2016 World Irish Dancing Championships in Glasgow last month.

A large crowd gathered in the Ballina Manor Hotel, Mayo, as Pieta House launched Mayo’s Darkness Into Light 2016 (DIL 2016) series of events in association with Electric Ireland. Joan Freeman, founder of Pieta House, was joined by Kevin Molloy from Electric Ireland, former Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh, along with members of local organisations and volunteers from across the county to launch DIL which is now in its eighth year.
